Child battery case under investigation; Cashier stealing from grocery store; More reports released Tuesday by JPD

A residential burglary was reported at 9:16 AM Monday morning at the 700-block of Crescent Cove.

A felony battery investigation was initiated Monday at Nettleton schools after a child showed up with injuries believed to have been sustained the day before. The report says a 9 year old boy was pushed down by a 33-year-old adult male, who then “stood on his face.” The boy had scratches and bruising on his face and a knot on the back of his head. The alarming case is under investigation.

A report filed Monday claimed that a suspect had been impersonating an officer on 10/01 at a masked location. No other information was available.

A commercial burglary occurred between Saturday night and Sunday morning at the 5300-block of Apt Drive. Suspects broke a fence, broke into an office building, and then stole a truck – a white 2008 Ford Econoline E350 with eight headstones in the back.

  • Two firearms and a wallet were stolen from a vehicle at the 1300-block of Goodwin Cove around September 12, a report said. But the alleged victim said he didn’t get around to filing the report until a month later.
  • Between Sunday night and Monday around noon, a vehicle was broken into at the 900-block of Owens Avenue. A flashlight was left behind.
  • Between 12:30 PM and 4 PM at the 5300-block of Apt Drive, a vehicle was illegally entered and items stolen
  • Between 9 PM Monday and 8 AM Tuesday at the 900-block of Links Circle, a vehicle was entered and items stolen

Two catalytic converters were stolen from vehicles at Quest Diagnostics between Saturday morning and Monday morning at the 900-block of Osler Drive.

A probation and parole search around 2:20 PM Monday at the 5400-block of Richardson Drive led to the arrest of a man believed to have stolen two vehicles. He also faces drug charges. David Ellis Young, 58, of Jonesboro, was arrested.

A residential burglary was reported Monday afternoon that happened sometime over the weekend, between Friday and Monday, at the 2700-block of Kristal Drive. A suspect reportedly entered the complainant’s home, took a set of keys, and stole a red 2017 Hyundai Accent.

A theft report Monday afternoon alleges that a Bill’s Cost Plus cashier had stolen $2,800 worth from cash registers. It’s under investigation.

A white 2008 Dodge Avenger was reported stolen from the 1200-block of North Church Street sometime between noon Saturday and Monday evening.

Two suspects ended up arrested following a traffic stop that began over them not going at a green light Monday night At about 9 PM near Matthews/Washington/Marion Berry Pkwy, two subjects were sitting for at least ten seconds without driving at a light. When Officer Christopher Shull stopped the vehicle, he found an adult male to be laying on his back between the seats where a console should be. When shining his light on the man, he caught him fidgeting with a white “bulb” of a used meth pipe. Benjamin Jasper Valeary, 26, and Shantaza D Boykins, 27, both of Jonesboro, were arrested. Among the charges was possession of meth with intent to deliver.
