Special Agents of the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division have been requested to open an investigation into the death of an individual who was being taken into custody by Cross County sheriff’s deputies earlier today (Tuesday, December 3, 2019).

The request for the investigation was directed to the state police by Sheriff David West of the Cross County Sheriff’s Department.

Jeffery Scott Lueallen, 41, died after reportedly fleeing on foot from deputies who had approached Lueallen and a second person in what was described as a “field” near Arkansas Highways 42 and 163 west of the Birdeye community. The incident occurred about 3:45 AM.
