Man arrested with used meth pipe and stolen gun

JONESBORO, Ark. – A report of a man allegedly dealing meth led the Street Crimes Unit to recover a stolen gun and make an arrest in the process.

At about 4:00 PM Tuesday, the report begins at the 900 block of Warner Avenue in Jonesboro. Investigators with JPD’s Street Crimes Unit went to the residence where William Garner, 61, of Jonesboro, resided. They received a tip that Garner, aka “Pookie,” was selling drugs at the home and was in possession of a gun. Garner is on Suspended Imposition of Sentence (SIS), giving authorities the right to search his residence without his permission. He met them at the door and they informed him of their reason for the visit.

Investigators found a loaded .45 caliber pistol in the recliner. It was a gun reported stolen with the Brookland Police Department in September of this year.

Additionally, authorities found a digital scale and bottle top with methamphetamine residue on it. Two plastic tooters with meth residue were found nearby. In a bedroom where Garner stayed, a used glass meth pipe was found.

Garner was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, a felony. There wasn’t enough to charge him with possession of meth. He did also catch a charge for possession of a firearm by certain persons and theft by receiving firearm. Both of those charges were also felonies.
