Matt Cavenaugh, Jenny Powers launch The LINK
JONESBORO, Ark. – A successful Broadway couple known for acclaimed performances on the world stage are bringing that same level of culture to Jonesboro.
The Link Theatre Company was incorporated on September 24 in Jonesboro. The LINK, as it will be called, is a project by Broadway couple Matt Cavenaugh and Jenny Powers, who look to give back to a community that has meant so much to them.
The couple have spent the past several years raising their two sons in Jonesboro, Cavenaugh’s home town. Cavenaugh also works within his family’s business, the Cavenaugh auto family, while Powers shares her time between NEA and her continued work on new Broadway bound musicals.
Plans have already been announced for the launch early next year of the professional theatre company’s first production: The Fantasticks.
The theatre’s inaugural production will be Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt’s Off-Broadway classic The Fantasticks, running March 6–8, 2020, at The Glass Factory in downtown Jonesboro. Cavenaugh will make his directorial debut on the production. Playbill.com
Cavenaugh and Powers will oversee a non-profit plan mixing local and regional talent with Broadway talent in casting. Students from Arkansas State University will also be involved.
Auditions for The Fantasticks will be held from 3 PM – 8 PM on Friday, October 18 and from 11 AM – 6 PM Saturday, November 9 at Studio 402, 402 S. Main Street, Jonesboro.
The duo each carry impressive resumes which promise to contribute lasting impacts on both crew and audiences in Northeast Arkansas.
In the 2003 musical Urban Cowboy, Cavenaugh debuted on Broadway. He’s also appeared in Grey Gardens, A Catered Affair, and West Side Story.
Powers performed as Meg and Clarissa in the 2005 production of Little Women on Broadway. She also performed in the 2007 production of Grease. She most recently performed earlier this year in the musical Marie, Dancing Still at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle.
