JONESBORO, Ark. – Within 5 minutes, JPD worked shooting and robbery calls related to each other early Wednesday in Jonesboro, a press release said. A suspect is in custody as of 11:30 AM.

Approximately 2:54 a.m. on August 7, 2019, Jonesboro Police responded to two dispatch calls that were made about 5 minutes apart. The first call was in reference to a shooting that had occurred in the 1600 block of French Street. The suspect was there trying to visit his girlfriend, who was staying at the residence, when he was confronted by an adult male at the home and was asked to leave. A fight broke out between the victim and suspect.

The juvenile male left the scene and traveled on foot to the 200 block of Gilbert Street.

Then, a second call was made to 911 about five minutes after the first call. Police were advised of a robbery in progress on Gilbert Street. The victim in the robbery stated that a juvenile male had asked him for a ride home and told him to “bring a gun”. Once inside the car, the juvenile suspect grabbed the gun and pointed it at the Gilbert Street victim and then got out of the car and ran toward French Street.

When the juvenile suspect returned to French Street, he confronted the previous victim in the front yard and shot him in the arm. The gunshot victim began to run and more shots were fired. The victim was struck again in the right hip and is being treated at a local hospital.

JPD made an arrest in the overnight shooting and aggravated robbery later Wednesday morning. The juvenile’s information will be withheld until the court decides to charge as an adult.

  1. El Paso New Fort Sumter

El Paso is our modern day Fort Sumter where the first shots were fired that started the (first) Civil War.
We’ve traded a sea fort for a border city and held firm to their respective symbolism.

We’ve allowed today’s hateful rhetoric to resurrect primordial tensions between races, weaponize them and, then, pull the trigger.
Muzzle-loaders are now sophisticated assault weapons, weapons of war, and they’re not shots heard around the world, but more tragically, they’re heard around the mall, the mosque, the Temple, the school, the club, the concert venue, any open, soft-target public space.
The Blue Vs. Gray has been updated to White Supremacists Vs. Blacks, Muslims, Jews, Gays, Mexicans…anyone who threatens the purity of the White race.
Our current political leadership is less reflective of our president in 1861, Abraham Lincoln, than Germany’s Chancellor in 1933, Adolf Hitler.
What I know as fact is that ten years from today, all my family and friends who continue to support T Rump today will insist, to the extreme of challenging me to a fist fight, they never supported T Rump and always knew he was corrupt, malevolent and mentally unstable.
    Sad.

    • You have used some big words, and conflated current events with historical ones. I am afraid that nothing you mentioned is associated with the other. There are numerous subjects in your poem thingie that you seem to want to make comparisons with, but its all quite a stretch. Apples and oranges? Not quite. I am personally able to distinguish a logic based argument from emotional nonsense, and what i just read is nonsense. You’ve managed to spell your words correctly, but that is all.
