Police kill murder suspect connected to last week’s homicide

JONESBORO, Ark. – Thursday’s officer involved shooting resulted in the death of the suspect.

Arkansas State Police have been called in to investigate an Officer Involved Shooting between a known homicide suspect and the Jonesboro Police.

Two Jonesboro officers were in area of Race and Curtview, when they were contacted by a property manager regarding drug activity in the area.

While following up on the complaint, the manager directed them to a specific residence where, a short time earlier, he had encountered what he thought were two female subjects trespassing, in what he believed to be an empty apartment.

Following up on that information, the officers began to check the area and spotted two individuals, one of which they thought was a missing person, Nichole Herndon, police said. As they approached closer, they recognized one of the two as Rodney Fisher. Fisher was wanted in connection to last week’s homicide of David Marshall. When encountered, Fisher pulled a handgun on the Officers and the officers subsequently fired back striking Fisher. Fisher was treated on the scene by officers and EMS then transported to a local hospital where he later died of his injuries. Herndon was found safe at the scene.

“In the interest of transparency and department protocol on officer involved shootings, we have turned the investigation over to the Arkansas State Police. Inquiries for any additional information concerning this incident should be directed to the Ark State Police.”

NEA Report broadcast live from the scene on Thursday shortly after the incident happened.
