CAUTION | GRAPHIC: Photos of my mom following her gruesome injuries Nov 13, 2018 NEA Report Craighead County 1 A look of horror was frozen on mom’s face. This was her on a stretcher being taken out of her home. Sunday, Sept. 16. Mom was taken into the hospital in a catatonic state. The following day, a breathing tube was put in her. She stopped breathing that night due to teeth and dried blood in her airway. A trach was placed to save her life. She was then put on a breathing machine. Her arms showed numerous wounds, cuts, and bruises. Full look at mom’s left arm/hand. Close look at mom’s left hand. Significant bruising, swelling, and other wounds. After her jaw was wired shut, she look much better – and still very broken. Mom’s knee’s were seriously bruised during the encounter. This was taken days later. Another photo after her jaw was wired shut. Her jaw had steel plates put into it due to the three fractures. We began to realize how bad her teeth were damaged during this time. Mom had no energy as she struggled to wake up. Her first walk was a mere ten feet before she tired out. Black eyes and a contusion above her right eyebrow. An obvious trauma on the right side (her left) created a black eye. A major contusion below the large gash in her head. Look at the bruising on her hands. They’re swollen. Major bruising/damage across her left arm. Mom continued improving but her hair was still covered in dried blood, here. She cracked a smile here. Her mood improved day by day. Mom moved to the chair and waved in photos we sent to her friends and family. A very special photo to me of mom communicating by pointing at letters. Her brother, Jim, watches on. Even with her damaged face, I was making mom laugh and took great joy seeing her smile. She’s so happy, even though she’s been through hell. We must fix her smile to give her back her joy. She couldn’t speak yet here, but she sent everyone a message in the family to show her improvement. Late October, 2018, Mom is doing remarkably better as we prepared to leave the hospital. Toward the end of October, Mom wanted to thank her neighbors for helping to find her and save her life. For the first time in years, our family returned to Mom’s home, with her, to gather her items. Nov. 2018. A huge journey toward improvement continues day by day. Each day is a gift. KODAK Digital Still Camera Please share to keep NEA informed:Tweet Related
