JONESBORO, Ark. – With little notice or fanfare, a burger chain establishment which sat next to Arkansas State University for close to half a century closed on Sunday, July 1, 2018.

Wendy’s at 710 South Caraway Road in Jonesboro closed to the public Sunday, a sign confirmed to the public.

No official word was provided by anyone with Wendy’s, although one could surmise the downfall of the restaurant was imminent once the direct connection with Arkansas State University was severed. While students and drivers once waited for trains to pass before they could get to class, that changed when the Marion Berry Parkway overpass shifted traffic down Matthews and over the train tracks onto campus. With the construction completed officially on November 29, 2011, and traffic flowing long before then, Caraway Road was blocked off at the Wendy’s location.

No longer a direct drive for many hungry college students, and with more options on Johnson Avenue along with delivery choices, Wendy’s quietly closed on Sunday.

Two other Wendy’s establishments remain open in Jonesboro: 2308 East Parker Road and 3102 Southwest Drive.
