LAKE CITY, Ark. – Christopher Yerbey, 34, just admitted to murdering 55-year-old Rickie Kirkendoll in his guilty plea before a Lake City courtroom, said 2nd Judicial District Prosecutor Scott Ellington.
Yerbey just entered a guilty plea to Murder 1 in Lake City, Ellington told me through text. He was set to begin a jury trial proceeding which would have lasted through Friday. For his guilty plea, Yerbey received a sentence of 23 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction followed by 15 years suspended imposition of sentence (the easiest way to explain this is 15 years probation).
The incident report in the case said Yerbey’s mother told police she had been in the kitchen cooking dinner with Kirkendoll when Yerbey walked in. Putting a gun to Kirkendoll’s head, Yerbey apologized and shot him, said the report. The wound was mortal. He fell to the floor and died a short time later.
Yerbey was then said to have stolen the victim’s truck and set it on fire in a rice field in Crittenden County. He turned himself in to authorities the following day.
