Motorcycles involved in fatal Saturday night wreck

JONESBORO, Ark. – One man was killed and two were injured in a gruesome motorcycle accident late Saturday night near Jonesboro.

It happened at 9:09 p.m. Saturday night, Sept. 30, on Highway 141, near Craighead Road 702, said the Arkansas State Police Preliminary Fatal Crash Summary. Three Harley Davidson motorcycles were driving north on 141 when the bike driven by Tony Cotton, 51, of Marion, struck an animal, the crash report states. 

The two other Harleys then collided with Cotton’s, according to the report.

The 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by John David Ishmael, 49, of Joshua, Texas, struck a road sign and then a tree. The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene by Deputy Coroner Rick Carter at 10:10 p.m.

The final bike was a 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by David Ishmael, 68, of Jonesboro – the father of the man who was killed in the wreck.

The extent of the injuries to the two bikers who survived was not known to press but at least one was taken to Regional One in Memphis, the report said.

Trooper Chris Davenport with ASP Troop C completed the report at 4:43 a.m. Sunday, October 1. He reported weather and road conditions as clear and dry.
