A-State To Host Professional Learning Communities Conference

JONESBORO – Seventy-five area school administrators will attend the annual leadership conference hosted by the Crowley’s Ridge Educational Service Cooperative of Harrisburg and the Arkansas State University Education Renewal Zone (ERZ).

The conference is Wednesday and Thursday, July 12-13, in the Cooper Alumni Center, 2600 Alumni Boulevard, on the A-State campus.

Dr. Phil Warrick, associate vice president of Marzano Research Laboratory, is the featured speaker. He served as an award-winning administrator in Nebraska for 12 years and has been an adjunct professor at Peru State College since 2005.

He will lead the session that includes the following topics: professional learning community best practices, purposeful questions, modeling the collaborative process, interactive activities, artifacts of authentic practice and developing your own protocol.

In addition, he will offer K-12 leadership teams a practical, comprehensive model of effective professional learning communities. Warrick will also expand on the responsibilities of collaborative teams, enabling them to transform the scope and content of the curriculum, nature and function of classroom assessments, the manner in which instruction is planned and executed, the system in which teachers develop, and the way schools are led.

The ERZ, directed by Jill Clogston, works closely with the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE), educators, students, families and their supporting communities to provide and implement customized strategies, effective tools and authentic partnerships to improve overall public school performance and student academic achievement.

“This is the sixth year since the ERZ and the Crowley’s Ridge Educational Service Cooperative have partnered to bring about this leadership conference,” Clogston said. “The subject matter each year is always very timely and relevant to the school districts we serve.”
