Man killed early Friday; arrest warrant issued

JONESBORO, Ark. – Jonesboro police have obtained an arrest warrant for a suspect in connection with a shooting that claimed the life of Jonesboro man early Friday morning.

Officers responded to shots fired call in the 400 block of North Bridge shortly after 6:30 Friday morning and found that a man had been shot. The victim was administered aid and transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he was subsequently pronounced dead.

Officers had responded to a shots-fired complaint in the same area Thursday night, but no one was struck by gunfire and no one was arrested.

Through investigation Friday morning, officers identified Alex Rankin, 39, as a suspect in the slaying. Police searched a nearby house on Allen Street where they believed the suspect had fled, but he was not located there.

Detectives have obtained an arrest warrant for Rankin on a charge of first-degree murder and are officers attempting to locate and arrest him.
