JONESBORO – Arkansas State University’s Fowler Center will present Third Coast Percussion as its next performance in the 2016-17 Riceland Distinguished Performance Series on Saturday, March 11, at 7:30 p.m. The sponsor of the show is Posey Peddler.
Third Coast Percussion won this year’s Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance, for their album “Third Coast Percussion | Steve Reich,” released on Cedille Records.
Third Coast Percussion explores and expands the extraordinary sonic possibilities of the percussion repertoire, delivering exciting performances for audiences of all kinds.
Formed in 2005, Third Coast Percussion has developed an international reputation with concerts and recordings of inspiring energy and subtle nuance. The musicians have become known for ground-breaking collaborations across a wide range of disciplines, including concerts and residency projects with engineers at the University of Notre Dame.
The four members of the group, who met while studying percussion music at Northwestern University, hold degrees from the Eastman School of Music, Rutgers University, the New England Conservatory, and the Yale School of Music. They also are accomplished teachers, and have served since 2012 as ensemble-in-residence at the University of Notre Dame’s DeBartolo Performing Arts Center.
A direct connection with the audience is at the core of all of Third Coast Percussion’s work, whether the musicians are speaking from the stage about a new piece of music, inviting the audience to play along in a concert or educational performance, or inviting their fans around the world to create new music using one of their free mobile apps. The ensemble enhances the performances it offers with cutting edge new media, including free iPhone and iPad apps that allow audience members to create their own musical performances and take a deeper look at the music performed by Third Coast Percussion.
Third Coast Percussion maintains a busy touring schedule, with past performances in 32 of the 50 states plus several other countries.
All seating is reserved.
