JONESBORO, AR. | In accordance with its Fearlessly Brilliant public art initiative, the Downtown Jonesboro Association is now seeking mural proposals from artists interested in creating a signature piece for Downtown murals.
Artists from around the community are encouraged to submit their rendering. The mural should be distinctive through use of design and color, suitable and acceptable for public viewing of all ages. The goals of the Downtown Mural Project are to beautify a public space in the ‘arts and entertainment’ sector of downtown Jonesboro, to increase pedestrian traffic and attract local and regional visitors to view the mural artwork.
Fearlessly Brilliant is a public art initiative of the Downtown Jonesboro Association (a not-forprofit 501c3) Design Committee, and as such, operates through use of funds provided by grants. The goal of the initiative is to increase pedestrian traffic to the downtown district, and enhance the experience of the community. Fearlessly Brilliant encompasses a wide range of artwork for downtown Jonesboro, with emphasis on highly traveled routes and public spaces. The initiative promotes community art, and provides an intersection between the past, present, and future, between disciplines, and between ideas.
The Downtown Jonesboro Association board has successfully completed two mural projects downtown thus far, and are hoping to fill two other mural spaces soon with this fall’s request for proposals.
Downtown Jonesboro Association’s Design Committee Chair, Steven Trotter, expressed his excitement, saying, “We are proud to bring not just one, but several new murals to Downtown Jonesboro. The entire committee is so excited to see the submissions resulting from our call to artists. We have so much talent in our local community. With this type of art, you don’t simply look at it; you step in front of it and interact with it. To be able to do that, and see the looks on people’s faces and how happy it makes them on a daily basis, that’s what we love about street art.”
Artists interested in creating a work of public art should submit the application and additional materials no later than December 2nd to be considered. The application can be found on the Downtown Jonesboro Association website: www.downtownjonesboro.com.
