
JONESBORO, Ark. – One nearby resident wondered what the loud boom she heard in Scenic Hills around 8 a.m. Friday morning was.
A loud explosion followed by a brief fire happened the Riceland plant on Dan Avenue in Jonesboro, drawing a response from several Jonesboro Fire Department engines. A representative from the plant told NEA Report the all-clear had been given by around 8:30 a.m. No one was reportedly injured in the blast.
Several commented on NEA Report’s live stream they had heard the boom as far as five minutes away.
According to a source, the incident was a dust explosion. Highly concentrated airborne dust came into an ignition source and it exploded.
A slight fire occurred and burned out once the dust particles burned off. A small amount of smoke was produced and fortunately, no one was in the area when it happened.
The source said this happens every few years there.
