Trumann residents pass sales tax

TRUMANN, Ark. – In a close vote, the one percent sales tax effort in Trumann passed Tuesday night.

376 for, 312 against, was the preliminary final tally in the election, according to Poinsett County Clerk Teresa Rouse’s office. Mathematically, 55 percent of voters chose the tax increase.

The tax proceeds are intended to go to repairs for wells, sewer lines, parks, dilapidated city-owned buildings, as well as streets. Other uses include upgrades in the fire department, with hopes to improve the ISO rating from a 4 to a 3, helping insurance costs of residents.
