Trinity Church pastor talks about sale controversy

JONESBORO, Ark. – A vote on October 18 by the Jonesboro Public School Board to purchase Trinity Church’s building and property on Highland Drive was not approved by congregational vote and must be before Lender’s Title Company will insure the sale, a report by the Jonesboro Sun said on Thursday.

Trinity Church Pastor Chad Gonzales told NEA Report there was no congregational vote because of a change in the church’s constitutional rules earlier in the year. Gonzales said the change gave the board voting powers and it was not opposed.

The Sun article also referenced several who said they had been excommunicated from the church for opposing Gonzales. Gonzales brought four letters into NEA Report studios canceling memberships of four different members. He said all had expressed they would be leaving the church in some form or fashion before the letters were sent out.
