Driver Accused of Leaving After Striking Pedestrian at A-State

Jaquana Pruitt faces a felony allegation after allegedly leaving the scene of a crash that injured a pedestrian at A-State. Her bond was set at $5,000.

JONESBORO, Ark. — A driver is accused of leaving after striking a pedestrian in a crosswalk on the Arkansas State University campus, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Jaquana Pruitt faces a Class D felony allegation of failing to give information, remain at the scene and render aid following a crash, according to first appearance paperwork. Her bond was set at $5,000 cash or surety by Judge David Boling.

Officers with the Arkansas State University Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of Marion Berry Parkway and Aggie Road at about 10:18 p.m. Oct. 7 for a report of a vehicle striking a pedestrian. Officers were told the vehicle had left shortly after the crash, the affidavit states.

Campus camera footage shows the vehicle striking the pedestrian in the crosswalk as it attempted to travel north through the intersection, according to the affidavit.

The vehicle stopped, and the driver and pedestrian spoke before the driver left, the affidavit states. The pedestrian told investigators he had asked the driver to pull to the side so they could contact help.

Officers located Pruitt driving the vehicle in the early morning hours of Oct. 8, according to the affidavit.

In a written statement described in the affidavit, Pruitt said the pedestrian told her to pull to the side. She said she left when she saw he was calling police.

The pedestrian suffered minor injuries, including scrapes and cuts, according to the affidavit.

The bond order is dated Nov. 2. The first appearance paperwork lists Pruitt’s next court appearance for Dec. 16.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
