JONESBORO, Ark. — Trinity plans to permanently end heavy railcar maintenance at its Jonesboro facility in a restructuring that will affect about 172 employees, the company said in a Sept. 23 statement.
The site will remain open for mobile repair and storage operations. Trinity said it will primarily handle light railcar maintenance and become a regional hub for the company’s mobile railcar repair business.
The company attributed the decision to current market conditions and efforts to better align its railcar maintenance network.
Some affected employees will have an opportunity to apply for positions supporting the continuing mobile repair and storage operations, according to the statement. Trinity did not say how many positions would be available or how many employees would ultimately lose their jobs.
“Trinity recognizes the significant impact this restructuring will have on affected employees and is committed to providing resources and support during this transition,” the company said.
The statement did not specify when the changes would take effect or what assistance affected employees would receive.
“Trinity will maintain a presence in Jonesboro through mobile repair and storage operations,” the company said.
