JONESBORO, Ark. — A car reported stolen in Jonesboro appeared for sale on Facebook Marketplace, leading to a felony theft allegation against Kori Blake Hancock, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Hancock was taken into custody Sept. 17 after a bench warrant was issued, the affidavit states. His first-appearance paperwork lists theft of a vehicle valued at more than $1,000 but no more than $5,000, a Class D felony.
The vehicle’s owner reported the theft to the Jonesboro Police Department on Aug. 30. She told investigators she had recently purchased a 2007 Cadillac CTS but left it parked on the street outside a residence after being evicted because it was not running and she was trying to obtain a part, according to the affidavit.
She also reported that the residence had been burglarized and the vehicle’s title stolen before she could retrieve all of her belongings. She continued checking on the car after moving out, then discovered it was missing and had been listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace, the affidavit states.
The person who had sold the Cadillac to the owner confirmed the sale to investigators and said she had signed the back of the title when the owner purchased it, according to the affidavit.
A witness told police Hancock asked her to list the vehicle on Marketplace, saying he was its lawful owner. The affidavit also describes Facebook messages from Hancock containing photographs and information about the vehicle and asking that it be sold.
Another witness told investigators Hancock showed her the title and said the vehicle’s owner had sold it to him for $100. That witness said she towed the Cadillac to a residence on Matthews Avenue at Hancock’s request, according to the affidavit.
The investigator wrote that Hancock declined to meet and said he did not know the name of the person who bought the vehicle from him.
Judge Barbara Halsey found probable cause Sept. 18 and set Hancock’s bond at $15,000 cash or surety. His next court appearance is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Oct. 26 at the Craighead County Courthouse in Jonesboro, according to the court documents.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
