Driver Killed After Kenworth Strikes Chevy Traverse At Highway 18 And Highway 135

A preliminary Arkansas State Police summary says a Sept. 11, 2026, crash at Highway 18 and Highway 135 in Craighead County killed one driver and injured another after a Chevy Traverse entered the lane of an eastbound Kenworth in rainy, wet conditions.

CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, Ark. — A preliminary Arkansas State Police summary says a crash on Sept. 11, 2026, at the junction of Highway 18 and Highway 135 killed one driver and injured another.

State police identified the deceased as Gregory Groves, 53, of Blytheville. The summary says Groves was driving a 2023 Chevy Traverse northbound on Highway 135 and attempted to make a left turn when the vehicle entered the lane of a 2016 Kenworth that was eastbound on Highway 18; the Kenworth struck the Traverse in the inside lane of Highway 18. Weather was reported as rain and the road was wet.

The driver of the Kenworth, identified as Derick Smithson, 43, of Trumann, was injured. The investigating officer was listed as TRP NASH THOMAS 431 and the account is described by the agency as a preliminary Arkansas State Police summary.
