JONESBORO, Ark. — Three men face felony theft charges after police say surveillance cameras helped them track a stolen golf cart from the Arkansas State University campus through Jonesboro.
Caleb Deshawn Quinn, Taris Durell Randolph and Robert Deshun Selvy are accused of participating in the theft of a golf cart valued at $4,750 that the A-State Alumni Association had leased from SS Custom Carts for the football season, according to probable cause affidavits.
University police were notified of the theft Sept. 14. Investigators reviewing campus surveillance footage reported seeing the three approach the cart in the parking lot of A-State’s baseball stadium shortly after 3:37 a.m., according to the affidavits.
Police allege the three took the cart toward Embassy Suites before Quinn drove it off campus onto Red Wolf Boulevard. A black Chevrolet Malibu left shortly afterward.
Investigators said Quinn drove the cart to Johnson Avenue and met the Malibu at a gas station, where one of the other suspects got out of the car and joined him on the golf cart. The affidavits do not clearly establish whether that passenger was Randolph or Selvy.
Police said the cart traveled through an apartment complex and a fence line before appearing on a Jonesboro Police Department camera near Cedar Heights Drive and Melrose Street. It later traveled west on Belt Street and south onto State Street.
Officers recovered the cart about 11 a.m. Sept. 15 while people were driving it on Cedar Heights Drive, according to the affidavits. Police subsequently located Quinn, Randolph, Selvy and the Malibu on State Street.
First-appearance paperwork lists each defendant’s charge as theft of a vehicle valued at more than $1,000 but no more than $5,000, a Class D felony.
Judge Barbara Halsey set bond for each defendant at $35,000 cash or surety in orders dated Sept. 16. All three are scheduled to appear in court at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 26, according to the court paperwork.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
