JONESBORO, Ark. — A man faces a felony forgery charge after police said he used four fake $20 bills marked “Motion Picture Money” during a $175 purchase at a Jonesboro business.
An officer was called to the business on South Caraway Road on May 21 after an employee discovered the bills while counting the day’s money, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Investigators reviewed surveillance video that allegedly showed Devrick Bernard Dotson handing several $20 bills to the cashier. The fake bills were positioned in the middle of genuine currency while the cashier counted the money, the affidavit said.
A closer examination showed the words “Motion Picture Money” printed on the four fake notes. Police said Dotson left the business with the purchased merchandise.
A bench warrant was requested May 25 and signed by Judge Thyer the following day. Dotson was arrested July 29 and taken to the Craighead County Detention Center.
Dotson is charged with first-degree forgery, a Class B felony. His bond was set at $10,000 cash or surety during his first appearance Friday.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 30 in Craighead County Circuit Court.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
