VIDEO: Trooper Terminates 140+ MPH Chase on Interstate 55 in Mississippi County

MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, Ark. — Arkansas State Police released video from a March 29 pursuit in rural Mississippi County after a trooper tried to stop a speeding Dodge Charger on Interstate 55 and later terminated the chase.

According to an Arkansas State Police incident report, Trooper Carter E. Lazenby attempted to initiate a traffic stop at approximately 1:08 a.m. on March 29 after spotting a blue 2020 Dodge Charger traveling southbound near the 42-mile marker.

Lazenby reported the Charger was traveling 93 mph in a 75 mph zone in the left lane, a speed he said was confirmed by rear radar.

After the vehicle passed his patrol unit, Lazenby activated his emergency lights to initiate the stop, according to the report. Instead of pulling over, the driver activated the vehicle’s hazard lights, accelerated and continued southbound on Interstate 55.

State police said the pursuit continued for about 24 miles, with speeds exceeding 140 mph at times. Traffic on the interstate was light, and weather conditions were clear, according to the report.

Lazenby reported he lost sight of the suspect vehicle near the 17-mile marker southbound in Crittenden County and then voluntarily ended the pursuit.

No arrest information was included in the report provided.
