JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ark. – An Arkansas State Police trooper used a Tactical Vehicle Intervention, or TVI, to end a high-speed pursuit on Interstate 530 after the suspect, identified in the report as Deandre Brothers, allegedly drove as fast as 125 mph, narrowly missed multiple vehicles, crossed the median, and crashed into a southbound SUV.
According to the ASP report, the pursuit began around 11:18 a.m. on March 23 after Troop E dispatch was contacted by the Metropolitan Emergency Communications Association, which advised that the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was requesting assistance with a chase involving a silver 2019 Nissan Altima driven by Brothers. Deputies were pursuing the vehicle north on Interstate 530.
The report said an ASP captain and trooper left Troop E headquarters to intercept the pursuit as it approached their area. By the time the trooper entered the roadway, deputies reported the chase had already passed Troop E and was still heading northbound before taking Exit 35. The trooper then worked to catch up as the pursuit turned around and re-entered Interstate 530 northbound. Deputies advised the suspect was traveling about 125 mph and driving erratically.
As the trooper approached Exit 30, he reported seeing a large amount of dust and yaw marks that appeared to show the suspect vehicle had left the roadway and entered the median near the exit. He later caught up and took over as the primary unit near Exit 24, according to the report.
Police said Brothers continued making erratic maneuvers and narrowly missed other vehicles several times. At one point, the trooper reported seeing the Altima move into the right lane at high speed toward another vehicle before steering hard left at the last second to avoid a collision. The trooper wrote that the suspect’s actions showed “extreme indifference to the motoring public” and needed to be stopped as soon as possible.
The trooper attempted a TVI during a break in traffic, but reported that Brothers slammed on the brakes just before contact, causing the trooper to overshoot and miss. A second attempt also failed when the Altima passed on the right. The pursuit continued northbound at excessive speeds, and near mile marker 21, the trooper said the suspect swerved between two vehicles traveling side by side, passing dangerously close between them.
Near Exit 20, the trooper moved into position for another TVI. According to the report, the suspect vehicle quickly shifted lanes, and the trooper then used the right side of the push bumper on his unit to make contact with the left rear corner of the Altima while the suspect simultaneously veered left.
After that contact, police said the suspect vehicle traveled northwest across the median, went through the cable barrier near the southbound shoulder, entered the southbound lanes, and struck a white Chevrolet Tahoe. The impact caused the Tahoe to overturn and come to rest upside down on the west shoulder of Interstate 530 south. The suspect vehicle continued north before coming to rest on the west shoulder.
Brothers then got out and ran west into a wooded area, according to ASP. Two Jefferson County deputies chased him and quickly took him into custody. The report said the female driver of the Tahoe was not injured and was safely transported from the scene by Jefferson County deputies.
ASP said Jefferson County deputies transported Brothers to the Jefferson County Jail and were expected to prepare a criminal case file recommending charges of felony fleeing, reckless driving, aggravated assault, leaving the scene of an injury accident, refusal to submit to arrest, disregarding a stop sign, disregarding a red light, and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. Jail records show the state is revoking his probation/parole status.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
