AUGUSTA, Ark. — The First Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has determined a Woodruff County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) deputy was justified in using lethal force during an officer-involved shooting that occurred on March 15, 2026.
Around 4:15 a.m., WCSO deputies responded to a residence in the 1100 block of White Drive to assist Augusta Police Department officers with a disturbance call. During the encounter, a WCSO deputy discharged his service weapon, striking the suspect, Randy Ealy, 45, of Franklin. Ealy was pronounced deceased at the scene.
At the request of WCSO, Special Agents with the Arkansas State Police (ASP) Criminal Investigation Division (CID) investigated the shooting. Upon completion of the investigation, ASP agents submitted the case file to the Woodruff County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review.
In a letter dated April 6, 2026, Deputy Prosecuting Attorney John Bell concluded that the deputy’s actions were consistent with Arkansas law. Bell stated that the deputy acted within the scope of his authority and that it was reasonable to believe the suspect was about to use deadly force against him.
