Woman Accused of Breaking Into Car, Leaving Cupcakes Behind on Cate Street

JONESBORO, Ark. — A suspect is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after Jonesboro police said she was caught on camera rummaging through an unlocked vehicle and leaving behind a container of cupcakes.

Maegon Nicole Collier, 37, was arrested on suspicion of breaking or entering into a vehicle and theft of property involving credit or debit cards, both Class D felonies, along with misdemeanor counts of theft of property and criminal attempt, according to a probable cause affidavit from the Jonesboro Police Department.

According to the affidavit, officers were dispatched March 2 to a breaking-or-entering incident on Cate Street. The victim told police her vehicle had been parked on the side of Cate Street on Feb. 28 and left unlocked. When she returned on March 2, she found the vehicle had been rummaged through and that her wallet and credit cards were missing.

The victim also told police that a container of cupcakes had been left inside the vehicle by the suspect, according to the affidavit.

Police reviewed footage from cameras at an apartment building and said the video showed a white female wearing blue pants and a black shirt walking toward the victim’s vehicle at about 4:55 a.m. on March 1 while carrying a container of cupcakes.

According to the affidavit, the suspect stopped at the vehicle, checked the doors, opened the front passenger door and got inside. A short time later, police said, the suspect left the vehicle without the cupcakes and carrying other items. Officers also saw the suspect walk to a parking lot and appear to try to enter nine other vehicles, according to the affidavit.

While reviewing the footage, officers said they observed the suspect talking to herself and displaying abnormal behavior.

Investigators then reviewed dispatch records from before and after the incident to determine whether police had recently responded to calls involving a person matching the suspect’s description. During that review, police found a Feb. 28 Crisis Intervention Team call involving a white female wearing blue pants who had recently cursed at and thrown items, according to the affidavit.

Police said body camera footage from that call showed the same female wearing the same clothing seen in the surveillance video. During the CIT call, officers identified the woman as Collier. Based on the video evidence from both incidents, an arrest warrant was issued, according to the affidavit.

Collier’s next court date is May 18. Judge Tommy Fowler set bail at $35,000 and noted a history of theft.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
