JONESBORO, Ark. — The Craighead County District Court is warning residents about a scam involving fraudulent text messages that attempt to collect payment for traffic tickets.
According to a notice issued by the court, individuals may receive text messages claiming to be from District Court regarding outstanding tickets. The messages can include accurate personal or case-related information, making them appear legitimate.
However, officials say the messages are not from the court and are part of a scam designed to steal money or personal information.
The court emphasized that it does not send text messages to collect payments under any circumstances. Any message containing a payment link should be treated as fraudulent, and recipients are urged not to click the link or submit payment.
“The payment link provided in the message is not an official court website,” the notice states.
Residents who receive such messages are encouraged to contact the Craighead County District Court directly to verify any ticket information or payment methods. The court’s official phone number is 870-933-4508.
Officials are urging the public to remain cautious and take steps to protect their personal and financial information.
