Craighead Electric Warns Members About Utility Payment Scam Calls

JONESBORO, Ark. — Craighead Electric Cooperative is warning members about scam phone calls claiming customers’ electric service will be disconnected unless immediate payment is made.

According to the cooperative, several members — particularly in Greene County — have recently reported receiving suspicious calls from individuals posing as representatives of the utility.

The callers reportedly tell customers their electric service will be shut off unless they make an immediate payment.

Craighead Electric officials say the calls are fraudulent.

The cooperative emphasized that it will never call members and demand immediate payment to avoid disconnection. The utility also does not request payments through gift cards, prepaid debit cards, or payment apps.

Officials advise anyone who receives a suspicious call about their electric service to hang up and contact the cooperative directly to verify their account status.

Members who have questions or want to confirm information about their account can call Craighead Electric Cooperative at 870-932-8301.

The cooperative also encouraged members to share the warning with others so more people in the community are aware of the scam.
