JONESBORO, Ark. — A Jonesboro suspect was arrested following an alleged domestic disturbance in which a woman reported being assaulted and briefly prevented from leaving a residence, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Officers were dispatched on Dec. 17 to a disturbance in progress in the 900 block of Links Avenue. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the alleged victim, who reported that she attempted to leave the residence and take a vehicle when Jakalon Jashun Brooks, 21, allegedly grabbed her by the clothing and pulled her back inside.
According to the affidavit, Brooks then struck the victim with a closed fist and pushed her against a wall while choking her. The victim told officers she attempted to leave multiple times but was unable to do so.
During one of the final attempts, Brooks allegedly forced the victim onto a bed, got on top of her, and strangled her to the point she could not breathe and lost consciousness.
Officers documented visible injuries to the victim’s neck at the scene, the affidavit states.
Brooks was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, a Class D felony; misdemeanor kidnapping/false imprisonment; and third-degree domestic battery.
Bond was set by District Judge Tommy Fowler at $35,000 cash or surety, with a no-contact order issued.
His next court date is scheduled for Jan. 23.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
