Jonesboro Defendant Arrested in Rape Investigation Involving Child

JONESBORO — A 38-year-old Jonesboro defendant has been charged with rape after police investigated allegations involving a teenager.

According to a probable-cause affidavit, Jonesboro officers responded Oct. 11 to a residence on Greenbrier Road after receiving a report of sexual assault. The alleged victim told investigators that the conduct occurred when they had previously lived with the defendant. At the time, the victim was 14.

A forensic interview was conducted. The victim told authorities that the defendant would enter their room and sexually assault them while they supposedly were asleep.

Police interviewed the defendant and reported that he became very emotional and kept changing his account of the events surrounding the allegations. However, he did allegedly admit to touching the private area of the child and stated that he would never do it again.

The defendant, Cetrick Deshawn Crockett, 38, was arrested for rape, a Class Y felony punishable by 10 to 40 years or life in prison.

At Crockett’s bail hearing, Judge David Boling noted the defendant is currently on a suspended sentence and previously has been convicted of two domestic battery third-degree charges and one domestic battery second-degree charge. The court also cited a prior violation of a no-contact order. Boling set bail at $500,000 cash or surety and ordered GPS monitoring if released.

Crockett’s next court date is scheduled for Jan. 23.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Note: Details including the probable cause affidavit itself have been withheld to protect the victim
