JONESBORO, Ark. — Officers arrested a 36-year-old male after responding to a welfare call where a woman was found crying, trembling, and reporting death threats, according to a probable-cause affidavit.
On Nov. 23, officers arrived at a residence after a caller reported hearing screaming next door. The first officer wrote that he could hear yelling from outside as he walked up and saw a broken table in the front yard. The report states the officer could hear a male screaming at someone inside.
Officers used a flashlight to look through a window and saw a large pile of debris that the victim later said had been thrown across the living room when the table broke. The male subject, identified as Desley Brown, came to the door. The officer noted he was very animated and that he smelled strongly of intoxicants.
The alleged victim soon walked toward the door. Officers reported she had been crying, was visibly trembling, and appeared afraid. When asked if she was OK, she shook her head no and said she wanted Brown to leave and that she was scared of him.
The affidavit states Brown then walked outside so he could be served a no-contact order from a previous domestic arrest. Officers say the victim continued speaking with them and said Brown had threatened to kill her and her children and that she was very scared of him.
Desley Devonne Brown, 36, was arrested and booked into the Craighead County Detention Center on charges of first-degree terroristic threatening and third-degree assault on a family or household member.
District Judge Tommy Fowler set bond at $35,000 cash or surety, issued a no-contact order, and noted Brown’s history of domestic violence. The judge also authorized a civil standby within 48 hours of Brown’s release so he can retrieve personal belongings such as clothing and medicine, but not shared property.
His next court date is Jan. 23.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
