Piggott Man Accused of Stealing Thousands in Property After Being Allowed to Stay in Jonesboro Home

JONESBORO, Ark. — A Piggott man is facing felony charges after police say he stole thousands of dollars in property from a Jonesboro residence where he had been allowed to stay.

Judson Alan Haywood, of Piggott, is charged with residential burglary, a Class B felony, and theft of property greater than $5,000 but less than $25,000, a Class C felony. Judge Tommy Fowler set his bond at $10,000 cash or surety. His next court date is Jan. 23.

According to a probable cause affidavit, officers responded on Nov. 7 to a home on the 5600 block of Wildflower after the alleged victim discovered a window open and numerous items missing. The victim told investigators he had allowed Haywood to stay intermittently at the residence for several months.

Police say Haywood was supposed to accompany the victim on a work trip the night before the burglary but never showed up. When the victim returned home the next morning, he reported several valuables missing, including shoes, clothing, jewelry, two PlayStation 5 consoles, a laptop, a router, a cell phone, family photographs and other personal items. Investigators estimated the stolen property at around $10,000.

On Nov. 17, the victim reported that Haywood had accessed his Facebook account from Fayetteville. The victim traveled there and located a van connected to Haywood in a parking garage. Using a key provided by Haywood’s brother, the victim opened the van and said he found some of his stolen belongings inside, photographing the recovery. The van’s owner reportedly told officers the vehicle had been stolen by Haywood.

Investigators said several items remain missing, valued at approximately $4,000. The vehicle was later recorded through FLOCK cameras in Rogers.

Police arrested Haywood based on the alleged unlawful entry, the recovery of stolen items from the van and corroborating witness statements, the affidavit said.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
