Jonesboro Man, 21, Accused of Sexual Activity With 15-Year-Old, Faces Multiple Felonies

JONESBORO, Ark. — A 21-year-old is facing several serious felony charges in Jonesboro after police say he met up with a 15-year-old and engaged in sexual activity with her, even after learning her age.

At about 11:30 AM on September 8, 2025, the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office contacted JPD in reference to a missing child, according to a probable cause affidavit released on Friday. The parents said that they were able to see the child’s location. The child, a 15-year-old girl, was located at the 2500 block of Red Wolf Boulevard.

The affidavit states that the child met the suspect, Jaron Datrell Adaway, 21, at a car meet in Kennett. They added each other on social media. She then told him to come pick her up.

Adaway was read his Miranda rights, and he said he thought she was 17 years old, the affidavit said. He reportedly admitted to sexual activity with her. Later, Adaway learned she was actually 15, he told police. However, he did not end the relationship, even allegedly telling her he could get in trouble for their age difference. Adaway continued sexual activity with the victim, police say.

The victim told authorities Adaway gave her marijuana. He also allegedly shared a bottle of Hennessy with her.

Adaway faces charges of traveling for the purpose of an unlawful sex act with a minor, a Class B felony; interference with custody, a Class C felony; fourth-degree sexual assault, a Class D felony; and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a Class A misdemeanor.

On Friday, Adaway appeared in court, represented by attorney Mark Rees, who asked for a $50,000 bond. The state, represented by Andrew Nadzam, argued for a $100,000 bond. Judge David Boling granted the state’s request, setting bail at $100,000 while noting his concern that the defendant continued the conduct after learning the girl’s age.

Adaway’s next court date is scheduled for October 30.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
