Weapon Confiscated at Newport High School; Student in Custody

NEWPORT, Ark. — A student was taken into custody Monday morning after school officials located a weapon on the Newport High School campus.

Superintendent Jon Bradley said administrators were informed of the possible weapon around 10 a.m. With the assistance of the school resource officer, the weapon was found and confiscated.

The student was taken into custody by the Newport Police Department.

Bradley said no threats were made toward students or staff, and the situation was resolved quickly and safely.

“The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority,” Bradley said, thanking faculty, administration, school resource officers, and Newport police for their immediate response.
