JONESBORO, Ark. — Much of northeast Arkansas is now under the highest risk category for severe storms expected Wednesday afternoon and evening.
The most recent weather brief by the National Weather Service in Memphis shows Jonesboro, Paragould, and most other towns in NEA under the highest threat level. NWS said strong tornados over EF-2 are possible. Large hail over two inches in diameter is also possible, as are damaging winds.
The immediate impact of the storm is not the only concern. “Catastrophic” flooding is forecast by the weather service as well. Flash flooding events are possible on Wednesday. However, with the expected rainfall for several days, the highest flooding risk appears on Friday.
Much of the situation continues to develop.
Residents are encouraged to stay weather-aware, have a way to receive storm warnings, and have a plan in case of emergency.
