PARAGOULD, Ark. — A man stands accused of felony forgery in Paragould, according to a probable cause affidavit released on Monday.
On Dec. 3, 2024, Paragould officers took a forgery report from an alleged victim who said her ex-husband purposely forged her signature on a check, the affidavit said. The incident in question was reportedly on March 4, 2024. The woman said the check was over $2,000 and had been cashed without her knowledge. She provided police with a copy of the check and her forged signature. She also provided police information about a possible witness.
On Dec. 6, the witness was interviewed by police. Police said the witness admitted the defendant talked about the check and said he knew he needed the victim’s signature. The witness also provided text messages between them and the defendant on the day of the forged check. In the messages, it appeared to police that the defendant went through with the plan to deposit the check into their bank account.
On Dec. 12, First National Bank provided information confirming the forged check was deposited into the defendant’s bank account.
