Inmate Death Reported at Craighead County Detention Center

JONESBORO, Ark. — An inmate died this week while in custody of the Craighead County Detention Center.

Paul Kenneth Walker, 53, died on Monday night, Sept. 30, according to Chief Deputy Justin Rolland with the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office.

Rolland said a male inmate was in a cell by himself. He was incarcerated on a felony charge but authorities were in the process of doing an involuntary commitment on him. Rolland said before the commitment happened, unfortunately, the inmate passed away.

Foul play is not suspected, Rolland said.

The sheriff’s office confirmed Walker was the name of the inmate Tuesday evening. The next of kin was notified on Tuesday.

As a matter of procedure, an investigation into the death has been launched by the sheriff’s office. The body has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for autopsy by the state medical examiner.

This story will be updated with more information as it becomes available.
