JONESBORO, Ark. — City leadership provided an update Monday afternoon on the troubled Citizen’s Bank building that prompted street closures and emergency inspections over the weekend in Jonesboro.

Below is the full release that was posted to social media on Monday:

Over the weekend, the City officially engaged a structural engineer for an immediate structural assessment of the Citizens Bank Building. Jordan Lane, P.E., a structural engineer with 21 years of experience, will be conducting the assessment.

The first official site visit is planned for Tuesday. Mr. Lane conducted a preliminary site visit last week after the concern was brought to the attention of City leadership. His initial opinion was that a safety hazard could exist, but a detailed and current engineering study is necessary to provide conclusions about the building’s structural integrity.

The City will publicize a traffic plan for Main Street access within the next 24 hours. The exact details are being finalized, and temporary signage will be established to ensure vehicle and pedestrian safety. The traffic plan will be released to the media and circulated on city platforms on Tuesday, October 1.

City officials are in the process of gathering additional credentials from regional structural engineering firms for further opinions. The City will await guidance from the structural engineer before offering any additional comments on the building’s condition.
