JONESBORO, Ark. – The motion to reconsider filed by the city in the Rachel Anderson case has been deemed denied, but the city has appealed in hopes to stop the injunction ordering a name-clearing hearing.
In a court filing shortly after 11 AM on April 11, Chris Stevens of Fuqua Campbell, P.A. in Little Rock filed the notice of appeal on behalf of the Jonesboro mayor and police chief. The notice of appeal states that pursuant to Arkansas Rule of Appellate Procedure, the adverse rulings in the case are being appealed to the Arkansas Court of Appeals.
That includes, by name, the Motion for a Preliminary Injunction entered on February 2 and the “Circuit Court’s deemed denial of Defendants’ February 12, 2024 Motion to Reconsider,” along with “all other rulings adverse to Defendants.”
After 30 days without issuing an order in the case, the motion to reconsider was considered to be denied by the defendants.
At least one attorney in the case speculated that the judge held out on issuing an order in hopes that mediation would prevail. Thus far, there have been no updates on the status of mediation efforts since the talks began on March 28.

Hopefully he will be a one term mayor we don’t need his liberalism in Jonesboro
Who is paying for this – the taxpayers? Lawyers aren’t cheap. Come to think of it, will no lawyer in Jonesboro touch this? I know they won’t sue local hospitals but I understand that no lawyer wants to one day wake up in a hospital he sued but this is defending the city against something or other, isn’t it?
The city claims they cannot be sued. Or at least that’s what I was told. Local attorneys won’t sue from what I can find. But there’s ways around it. The city mostly refuse to acknowledge their wrongdoings.
