JONESBORO, Ark. – As the City of Jonesboro prepares to argue to reconsider the name-clearing hearing for Rachel Anderson, a new lawyer has joined the city’s legal team.
Two new court filings were made on February 14 in the case. First, Circuit Judge Keith Chrestman confirmed a “first-out setting” would be held at 10 AM on March 1 at the Craighead County Circuit Court. Parties have ten days to object to the scheduling.
The purpose of the meeting is to address the city’s motion to reconsider, filed on February 12. The city is asking the court to undo the decision to grant a preliminary injunction granting a name-clearing hearing to Anderson.
In a separate court filing, also on Valentine’s Day, a new attorney joined the legal team for the city, the mayor and police chief. Annie Depper of Fuqua Campbell, P.A. in Little Rock, filed noticed with the court that she was entering the case for the defendants.
According to the law firm’s website, Depper hails from El Dorado, Arkansas. She pursued her undergraduate studies at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville before obtaining her law degree from the University of Texas. Post-law school, she gained valuable experience clerking for Chief Judge Brian S. Miller of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas, as well as for Judge Mary Spencer McGowan of the Pulaski County Circuit Court. Annie specializes in general civil and commercial litigation, civil rights defense litigation, and criminal defense.
Presently, the case has been ordered into mediation by the judge. Parties have agreed to Richard Ramsay in Little Rock as the mediator, with the mediation scheduled for 9 AM on March 28.
