Judsonia, Ark. – A White County man finds himself facing several serious felonies after a scary incident was reported on Saturday.
Around 8:30 AM on May 20, authorities responded to a report of a possible shooting on Damsite Road outside Judsonia. According to the witness, a man identified as Michael Layrock, 43, had made threats to shoot anyone he found in the company of his girlfriend. The witness reported their last sighting of Layrock, armed with a pistol, walking behind 264 Damsite Road.
While deputies were interviewing the witness, they received information that a gunshot victim, Jacob Mcclung, had been admitted to Unity Emergency Room in Searcy with gunshot wounds. A deputy met with Mcclung, who disclosed that he had been shot twice by Layrock on Damsite Road. Mcclung further stated that he had last seen Layrock forcibly taking Brandy Massey into the nearby woods behind 264 Damsite Road.
In response to the incident, authorities established a perimeter and initiated an extensive search operation. Deputies, assisted by the State Police and Arkansas Game and Fish personnel, employed K-9 units and watercraft to aid in their search efforts. After approximately five hours, White County Detectives successfully established phone contact with Layrock and arranged for his peaceful surrender.
Following the investigation, Layrock faces charges including Criminal Attempt at Capital Murder, Aggravated Residential Burglary, Kidnapping, and Possession of a Firearm by Certain Persons.
He made his initial court appearance before Judge Mark Pate on Monday, May 22, where a cash bond of $250,000 was set. Layrock’s next court date is scheduled for July 11, at 9:00 am in White County Circuit Court.
Meanwhile, Mcclung received medical treatment for his gunshot wounds and was subsequently released.
