Kum and Go scammed out of almost $5,000

JONESBORO, Ark. – A case of theft by deception over the phone was reported this week to the Jonesboro Police Department, with the victim being a business.

JPD took the report on Sunday morning, February 19. The complainant said that a clerk working at Kum and Go at the 3900-block of Southwest Drive was contacted the same morning at 3:30 AM from an overseas number. A male subject called the store and instructed the clerk to take money from the safe and deposit the funds in a “Bit Coin” ATM on Caraway Road.

The unknown suspect stated that the Kum and Go manager, incidentally who filed the report, had authorized the transaction. The suspect reportedly gave the clerk a local phone number she thought to be legitimate.

The clerk took the money from the safe, went to the ATM, and deposited the money. $4,666.00 was reported stolen, a felony amount.

The case was reviewed and listed as inactive due to a lack of suspect information and evidence the following day.
