A shooting incident has become a homicide investigation after a victim was shot Saturday night at the Links Apartments in Jonesboro. He later died.
Derrick Kentrail Leonard, 19, was shot and later died during surgery, Sally Smith with the Jonesboro Police Department confirmed to NEA Report on Sunday.
The call first came in to 911 at 7:52 PM, police said in a release. JPD’s desk sergeant confirmed at 8:30 PM to NEA Report that police were responding to the Links Apartments and investigating a shooting.
Based on early information available to police, the shooting incident took place at the apartment complex itself and in the roadway, where the victim was found. He was treated on the scene and transported to a nearby hospital where he passed away.
Police have not released suspect information yet but continue to investigate.
