One person was killed and several other injured in an early Tuesday morning vehicle accident in Sedgwick.
The accident happened at 5:54 AM on Highway 63 in Sedgwick. The Arkansas State Police Fatal Crash Summary report states that a 2018 Jeep Cherokee was traveling southbound on U.S. 63 at the same time a 2016 Ford F-150 was headed northbound. As the Ford was stopped in the turning lane preparing to turn left, police say the Jeep crossed into the turning lane and hit the Ford head-on.
Jeffrey Watson, 39, of Pocahontas, was the driver of the Jeep. He was killed in the accident.
The Ford truck was driven by Jose Arriaza, 35, of Jonesboro. His passengers included Sayra Lopez, 37; Kenya Lopez, 41; Ever Lopez, 24; and Josue Pozo, 35: all of Jonesboro. The occupants of the Ford truck were reported injured and taken to Jonesboro hospitals for care.
Weather conditions were clear and roads were dry at the time of the accident. However, it was not fully daylight at the time of the accident, as sunrise was not until 6:02 AM.
After our initial report, a nearby resident contacted us to say the wreck had occurred just after sunrise, about ten minutes after State Police estimates the accident to have occurred.
