Suspect killed in officer-involved shooting in Manila

MANILA, Ark. – A male subject was killed in an officer involved shooting late Tuesday/early Wednesday in Manila, authorities have confirmed.

Second Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington confirmed the fatal shooting to NEA Report. Ellington said he received a call at 1 AM Wednesday morning from Arkansas State Police notifying him of the shooting in the City of Manila (Mississippi County). He went to the scene personally and did a walk-through. He was also given a brief rundown by authorities on the scene.

The deceased subject was a white male, Ellington confirmed. Later in the day, authorities released it was Christopher Palmer, 37, of Manila, who passed away.

The officer’s medical status was unknown by the prosecutor.

Arkansas State Police confirmed they are investigating the incident.

“Other than to confirm the use of deadly force by a law enforcement officer (as defined under Arkansas Code Annotated) investigation is being conducted by the state police criminal division, all inquiries should be directed to the Manila Police Department,” Bill Sadler, Arkansas State Police

6 PM Update – Sgt. Mike Shively is the officer who was involved and is now on leave, Region 8 News reports. Christopher Palmer, 37, of Manila, is the subject who is deceased.
