MARION – A West Memphis woman who threw acid and blinded a man and his son will serve 40 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction, Second Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington said.
Toya Lane Boston, 45, was convicted of two counts of first-degree battery and one count of battery with a deadly weapon in the presence of a minor Friday evening. A Crittenden County Circuit Court jury took about three hours to render the verdict, Ellington said.
Police said Boston broke into a back window in the West Memphis home of her ex-boyfriend Patrick Buford. She found Buford sleeping on a couch and threw suphuric acid in his face. Buford’s son, Patrick “Little Pat” Buford, 13, intervened and tried stopping Boston, police said. She also doused him with the acid. The elder Buford was blinded and the son lost vision in one eye. Both were also “horribly scarred,” Ellington said.
Circuit Judge Randy Philhours sentenced Boston to 15 years for each battery count and an additional 10 years for the enhanced charge of using the deadly weapon in the presence of a minor. The charges will run consecutively.
Deputy prosecutors Tom Young and Michael Snell prosecuted the case.
“I appreciate the hard work Tom and Michael did to pull this case together,” Ellington said. “The victims and their family were pleased with the result.”
