Drowning at Greers Ferry Lake

CLEBURNE COUNTY, Ark. – A Little Rock man perished on the water Saturday in Cleburne County.

The press release from Sheriff Chris Brown said the tragic incident began at about 2:15 PM on July 27 when Cleburne County Deputies, along with Corps Rangers, Paramedics, and Search and Rescue personnel were dispatched to Dam Site Park near Heber Springs for a possible drowning.

Upon their arrival, rescue crews learned that George Reed, 23, of Little Rock, had jumped off some bluffs into the Lake, but did not resurface.

Divers were deployed, and were able to locate Reed at approximately 2:55 PM. They were able to bring him to the surface. Reed was transported by ambulance to the hospital.

He was later pronounced dead, the sheriff said.

This marks the first drowning on Greers Ferry Lake for 2019.

“It is a stark reminder that even though the lake offers fun, it can also be very dangerous. We urge you to take any and all necessary precautions when coming to the lake or the river. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of George Reed.” – Sheriff Chris Brown
