On Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at approxiamtely 12:30 a.m., an officer with the Jonesboro Police Department encountered a disturbance in the roadway of Caraway Road, nearest the south entrance of the Links apartments. Ptl. Butler advised of a man holding a knife and requested available units to respond.
The subject was a black male. Other non-police subjects on the scene were trying to get the man to put the knife down. As officers were giving verbal commands to drop the knife, the suspect began inflicting wounds upon himself. He suffered wounds on his torso, neck and face.
Officers deployed tasers twice without success. Eventually, the subject cut himself deep enough on the face and he dropped the knife.
Officials rendered aid on scene and the subject was then transported to the St. Bernard’s ER by EMS for further treatment. His condition is unknown at this time.
