Woman scammed by jury duty lie

JONESBORO, Ark. – A woman was scammed out of almost $1,500 by someone claiming to be with the sheriff’s office.

Craighead County Sheriff’s Office took the report Sunday afternoon at the 5000-block of County Road 333 in Craighead County from a 44-year-old woman who received a call from her boss at work. Her boss said a “Detective Kevin Johnson of the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office” had called looking for her.

When the subject called back the supposed detective, he told the victim she had a bench warrant for missing jury duty. He told her to go get four MoneyPak cards and put money on them. She then was to send him the information and photos of the cards as payment.

She sent what he asked before realizing she had been scammed.

In total, $1,492 was paid to the scammer, some of which the victim borrowed from her mother.

Now, the real sheriff’s office is investigating the case. If you can help them, call Crimestoppers at 870-935-STOP.
